Leadership Report 2007: 10 Key Questions for Newsrooms

Change is accepted as inevitable in the industry, but some organizations seem to be better at it than others.  And even innovative organizations face difficult questions in the next decade.  Here is a list of the most important ones raised by conference participants and the presenters who spoke:

  1. What is the role of print in the organization today and in the future?
  2. What is the vision of our organization?  What is appealing and compelling about this vision?
  3. What will be the successful business model for news organizations in the future?
  4. Can we maintain our role as the watchdog of the community despite these changes?
  5. How can leadership in the newsroom be spread out?
  6. What are our worst fears about the changes we need to make?
  7. What should be the leadership structure of the modern newsroom?
  8. How do we try to keep things the same as an organization?  What has that meant to our need to change in the past?
  9. What do we need to let go of to moved towards our vision?
  10. How is innovation best achieved in organizations that are still tied to putting out a daily print product?
