About the Seminar
This special Leadership Conference, made possible by a partnership with New America Media, focused on the unique digital needs and challenges facing the nation’s vibrant ethnic media.
This unique “by invitation only” gathering, underwritten by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation and the McCormick Foundation, took place June 5-7, 2009, in Atlanta, GA, following the New America Media Expo 2009. It highlighted the best ideas and innovations available to help shape the future of the 10 ethnic news organizations attending. In addition, the two-day onsite was complemented by a series of monthly “virtual classrooms” designed to help the news organization implement new projects developed during the conference.
With no more than 20 participants, “Transforming Ethnic News Organizations for the Digital Future” included discussions on:
- Identifying and understanding the new online audience
- Making collaborative journalism work
- Understanding and using social networks and social media to build audience.
- Using mobile technology to connect with audience
