His positions have included director of recruiting and training, suburban bureau chief, assistant city editor, Sunday editor, and minority affairs reporter. Throughout these years, Rede has worked toward more diversity, training and engagement of staff and readers, efforts he now continues through online projects. Earlier, he was a reporter at the (Salem, Ore.) Statesman Journal and The (Bend, Ore.) Bulletin. Rede earned a Bachelor of Arts in journalism from San Jose State University.
