Jon Whiten is an owner and editor of the Jersey City Independent and NEW magazine. Previously, he was the editor for the Association of Alternative Newsweeklies, an industry trade group, and an assistant editor at a small chain of community weeklies in Northern Virginia. When necessary, he moonlights as a freelance fact-checker, researcher and copywriter. Whiten holds a master's degree in media studies from New York University and a bachelor's degree in communication from Boston University.
