Knight News Challenge: Last chance to comment on entries

by: Amy Gahran |

Although the Knight News Challenge on open government stopped accepting entries last week, participation is still welcome in the process of selecting the winners. Here's what comes next.

According to Knight, this Challenge received 886 entries. Knight ended up having to extend the deadline by a day because their servers "collapsed under a flood of traffic" on March 18, the original deadline.

Through this Friday, March 29, Knight is accepting feedback on the public proposals. Feel free to comment, ask questions, and offer "applause" (the equivalent of a Facebook "like") for specific entries.

On March 29, Knight will announce about 50 semifinalists: entries that will proceed on to the "refinement" stage of the Challenge. By April 5, these semifinalists will provide Knight with more detailed information, a proposed project budget, and create a 30-second video describing their project.

On April 16, Knight will convene a group of advisors to select a small group of finalists. And on June 24 the winners will be announced at the MIT Knight Civic Media conference.
