This week, the Local Independent Online News Publishers group announced it has welcomed its 100th member.

LION's members operate news organizations from Hawaii to Brooklyn, from the Grand Tetons to the Alamo, covering urban, suburban and rural communities. These publishers represent a variety of nonprofit and for-profit business models, and their businesses range in age from a year to a decade or more.

The group is generously supported by The Patterson Foundation. Spurred by this support, many LION members paid dues for three years as a show of faith in the promise of this group to enhance the fast-growing field of community news and information.
