Data Journalism Awards 2014: Now open for entries
Data-driven journalism isn't just for major news organizations -- it works at the community level, too. If your community news, information or engagement project has recently done some data journalism work you're proud of, consider entering the 2014 Data Journalism Awards. Entries opened this week.
The Data Journalism Awards recognize data-driven investigations, applications or storytelling that includes data visualization, on matters relevant to society and aim to have an impact at a societal level. It's open to media companies, nonprofit, and freelancers or individuals around the world. Eligible work must have been published/aired between April 10, 2013 and April 4, 2014.
Projects with community-level focus or relevance have won or been finalists in the past. For instance, one 2013 finalist was DC Kids Count, a data visualization collaboration between a local nonprofit and various data experts showing that "the success of too many DC children is predetermined by their zip code, instead of their gifts and abilities."
Whether or not you enter, perusing past winners offers ideas and examples of data-driven projects that might apply to your community.

Deadline for entries: April 4.
The Digital Journalism Awards are conducted by the Global Editors Network, with support from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation and Google.
