Help open your city's data: CodeAcross, Feb. 21-23
Want to help your city offer more open government data? On Feb. 21-23, people will gather at over 40 CodeAcross events around the world to collaborate to make government data more open and accessible.
The third annual CodeAcross is offered by Code for America, with support from the the Open Knowledge Foundation and the Sunlight Foundation. The mission of these events is to enable citizens to help make advance open government beyond simple transparency. Also, these events can help build communities of engaged citizens, and strengthen public institutions.
Complete list of events and resources.
CodeAcross participants of any technical proficiency can join teams working on any of these challenges:
- Open Data Inventory. Take stock of where your city stands on publishing some fundamental datasets.
- Open Data Policy Work. Collaborate with local officials to create an open data policy, or to draft an implementation plan or accountability structure for a recently passed policy.
- Open Civic Data Scraper. Build scrapers to collect important civic information to feed the Open Civic Data API.
Even if there's no CodeAcross event near you, or you can't make it on these dates, the resources for these challenges could be applied to any community at any time.
This year's CodeAcross coincides with the International Open Data Day hackathons, held Feb. 22.
