Reynolds Journalism Fellowships: Apply by Feb. 15

by: Amy Gahran |

Time is running out to apply for the 2014 Donald W. Reynolds Fellowships at the University of Missouri. This program supports the development of ideas and research that can help connect citizens with news and advertising more efficiently, grow news revenues, engage communities and enhance the news business through technology.

According to the Reynolds Journalism Institute: "We welcome any proposals that offer the hope of strengthening the journalism-democracy relationship."

RJI offers three categories of fellowship:

  • Residential. Must reside in Columbia, Mo. for the program duration. Residential fellows will have access to the intellectual and technological resources of RJI and the Missouri School of Journalism, interacting with faculty and students. Benefits include access to programmers and app developers, financial support to conduct market research, and hiring students to produce multimedia content. The strategies, products or services, resulting from fellows' ideas and work will be shared with news and news-related organizations.
  • Non-Residential. For entrepreneurial individuals with a strong interest in journalism and issues related to digital communications. Can pursue your own ideas or those that might benefit your employer. Only occasional visits to Columbia, Mo. are needed.
  • Institutional. For managers or leaders at a company or institution who can develop a news business idea, or lead a team while remaining on the job.
