Nonprofit media winners announced in first round of INNovation Fund

The Investigative News Network recently announced 8 winners of the first round of its INNovation Fund grants, to nonprofit news and public media outlet with diverse community-related projects. The total awarded was $236,280.

This grant program, supported by the Knight Foundation, is designed to spur nonprofit newsrooms to undertake innovative projects that will help make their organization more sustainable. There were 188 applicants for this round of funding.

The winning projects included an investigative journalism series, an underwriting campaign, and a bilingual mobile campaign. 

Applications open Aug. 15 for round 2 of the INNovation grant program. Winning proposals receive an average total grant of $35,000.
