Register for KQED social journalism hackathon by May 30
This weekend, KQED is hosting a social journalism hackathon with the interest of using technology to help stimulate context in news stories. The event is Saturday May 31 and Sunday, June 1 at the KQED studio.
Deadline to RSVP for the hackathon is Friday, May 30. Request an invitation here.
The hackathon will focus on leveraging social media and archived content to deliver real-time, accurate and potent news.
Community and public media outlets should find these workshops especially helpful. The event is meant to help develop journalists through mentorship, demonstrations and one-on-ones exploring the tools available to tell a story. Smaller sites with an intimate sense of a beat can make their content all the more powerful by mastering context with new tech and innovative practices.
There will be challenges for ideas and creative uses of APIs, with a few smaller cash rewards given. This is one of over 100 U.S. events this weekend as part of the National Day of Civic Hacking.
Follow and talk to the hackathon on Twitter with hashtag #RJIhacks.
