There are several community-oriented projects in the mix. Some are more focused on the physical community a library can sustain, such as the Beauty & The Book, which offers a low-tech approach to getting teenage girls in Miami into book crafts. Other projects hold the digital aspect of the challenge as a priority; Nashville-based proposal The Digital Library encourages digital literacy for those fairly disconnected, either by choice or circumstance.

Civic advocates may find value in Eli Neiburger's Civic Ticker, which proposes changing the library's infrastructure to inform citizens and help them inform. Neiburger says libraries are well-positioned to report on local happenings, but lack the technology needed to do so properly. Developing Ann Arbor, Michigan's public library to properly serve the information needs of the community would provide a needed service, as corporate-sponsored media has cut back and the Ann Arbor Chronicle closed down last month

Jason Kucsma's proposal to digitize cultural information in New York has a goal to create a lasting archive of various heritages thriving within the metropolitan area. Culture in Transit would scan cultural information from the public and make it accessible to the greater community and the full online scope.
