Register for free online course in investigative journalism

On May 12, the Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas is launching a free five-week online course, Investigative Journalism for the Digital Age. This Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) is aimed at journalism practitioners at any level of experience -- from students to longtime journalists, as well as citizen journalists and others not working in a traditional newsroom.

The instructors are  four leading investigative reporters: Brant Houston, Steve Doig, Michael Berens, and Lise Olsen.

Participants will be guided through the basics of leading a journalistic investigation, and will work through examples of investigative stories. The class will also cover finding sources, analyzing data, ethics and use of social media for gathering information. 

investigative journalism may sound overwhelming, but it doesn't have to be. They can cover small community issues as well as major national or international news; the principles are the same. This course will teach basic skills that can be applied to investigative journalism at any scale. Investigative reporting is of immeasurable value to a community newsroom. It can create impact and foster closer, more meaningful connections with stories, sources, and involved communities.
