7 Cool Social Media Toolsets for 2016

by: Nancy Yoshihara |

Once again, Jeremy Caplan has curated a super resource list, this time a guide that will take you through the fast changing world of social media tools. He shares not just seven tools, but seven types of toolsets that include many, many, many different online gadgets that can help you better present online news and engage more viewers.

The director of education for the Tow-Knight Center for Entrepreneurial Journalism at CUNY’s Graduate School of Journalism presented the best of a new generation of tools recently at Social Media Weekend 2015.  You can view his presentation online to get an overview of the tools.

But it’s the details that count and he has put the details about his seven toolsets in a handout that provides, for each toolkit, the names of tools and links as well as both his slide presentations and videos.  He even throws in “Bonus Stuff.”

You just have to see the toolsets for yourself.  They fall into these categories plus the bonus:

  • Digests: Tailored consumption and trending news
  • Visualize: Make Ideas More Visible
  • Create: Add Moving Visuals to Your Mobile Social
  • Design: Punch Up Your Imagery
  • Connect: Amplify Your Network
  • Integrate: Streamlining Social Workflows
  • Measure: Put Data Behind Your Social
  • Bonus stuff such as how to track new startup and tools, great story telling design and much more.

NOTE:  Caplan’s toolsets drew kudos from social media consultant Beth Kanter. She described his presentation as a stellar example of content curation, information design and format. “Anyway, “ she blogged, “what I love most about this resource is the way it is chunked so you can learn to master a few tools at a time.  In other words, you have a learning journey here in this resourced, mapped out in 15 minutes a day over the next month or so."
