2016 tech trends to watch, cover and embrace

by: Nancy Yoshihara |

It’s hard enough to keep up with fast changing technology so a new report about 81 tech trends in the New Year may be even more intimidating. Fear not!

The annual Tech Trends Report from the WebbMediaGroup, a leading forecasting and strategy firm, carefully differentiates trends new to the list and ongoing ones such as privacy, video, etc. that are splintering into sub trends worth our attention. The report is organized into an easy-to-read slide show format (it’s long at 74 pages) and it’s free.

It is, for the most part, a fast read in the style and pace of the company’s founder, futurist Amy Webb, who you may have heard at media innovation conferences where she draws large audiences. The trends provide background for news entrepreneurs and outlets about what to watch for, who to watch and how the trends may affect your own media operation.

The report is worth a thoughtful read but if you’re in a hurry here are the trends that are featured for the first time in the Tech Trend Report:

Bots

Ambient Interface

Personality Analytics

Drone Lanes

Internet Mob Justice

Complicated Legal Decisions

Technology Policy

Artificial Intelligence for Now

Media Consolidation

Transparency in Metrics

Digital Frailty

Real Time Fact Check

Augmented Knowledge

Internet of X

Genomic Editing
