A new version Google Glass revealed in FCC filing

by: Nancy Yoshihara |

A year after Google scrapped its original Google Glass connected eyewear, the project may make a comeback of some sort based on documents and photos posted on the Federal Communications Commission website.

Details of the new model seen in The Wall Street Journal video show a foldable device and a green light to indicate when its camera is on. The two new features address complaints about the original Explorer version, which did not fold and raised privacy concerns because there was no way to know if the camera was on. None of the photos in the FCC filing show the new device being worn, and a price was not given. Explorer sold for $1,500.

The new device is identified only as"GG1". No company announcement has been made. Google moved Glass out of it experimental projects incubator last January and made it an independent division reporting to Tony Fadell at Google’s connected-home business Nest.

Previous reports from The Wall Street Journal and 9to5google have given the redo different names. The new Glass iteration reportedly will be aimed at the business sector.
