New Jersey Workshop: Digital Strategy for Community and Place-Based Foundations

The Knight Digital Media Center and the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation and the Community Foundation of New Jersey present a unique two-day workshop exploring how community foundations can better engage the public around issues they care about by using new digital tools and best practices.

Among the presenters:

  • Beth Kanter, a nationally recognized expert in social media strategy for nonprofit organizations and an author of The Networked Nonprofit and Measuring the Networked Nonprofit.
  • Lee Rainie, Director of Pew Internet & American Life Project, a research center that examines people’s online activities, the internet’s role in their lives and what it means to local communities and community institutions.
  • Amy Gahran, a media consultant and mobile specialist who covers mobile technology for cnn.com and entrepreneur.com.

Topics included:

  • How and when a social media strategy is crucial to outreach and engagement on community issues.
  • How emerging tools such as mobile and data enhance community engagement.
  • How to align internal communications strategies with digital engagement focused on specific outcomes.
  • How news and information projects can enhance foundation impact and mission.
